Ron Abuelo

The history of Varela Hermanos, S.A dates back to 1908, when Don José Varela Blanco, a young Spanish immigrant, established in the town of Pesé the San Isidro Sugar Mill, the first sugar mill in the recently formed Republic of Panamá. Pesé, founded in the mid XVIII Century, is located on a fertile valley in the center of Panamá. The main activity of its population of about 10,000 people is the cultivation of sugar cane. Today, almost a century after Don José started operations in Pesé, the third generation directs Varela Hermanos, S.A. — the leading producer of distilled spirits in Panamá — continuing the same family traditions. With a solid production infrastructure, and the passion and dedication of our entire workforce, we have positioned ourselves with major presence in the international marketplace as exporters of fine rums and spirits..

Sangre de Vida

He ascended to the sky to find the evil goddess and fight her, but instead he found her granddaughter Mayahuel, the goddess of fertility, who had been kidnapped by the evil goddess. Mayahuel possessed four-hundred breasts and he fell deep in love with her. Instead of killing the evil goddess, Quetzalcoatl brought Mayahuel down to earth to live with him. When the evil goddess found out, she got extremely mad and went after them. The lovers were forced to run from one place to another to hide until one day there was no where else for them to hide. They decided to turn themselves into trees and live the rest of their lives side by side so that when there was wind their leaves could caress one another. But the evil goddess kept up her search and finally found them and when she did she killed Mayahuel. Quetzalcoatl consumed with grief buried his lover. Every night would sit at her grave and cry and cry. The gods watching him wanted to do something to help him. In the burial site an agave plant began to grow. Black Bottle Blended Scotch

Some things are better left a secret. Black Bottle Blended Scotch Whisky has kept its family recipe of rich flavors and smoky aromas confidential for over 130 years. The Black Bottle story starts a journey of fragrance from the deep wooded oaks, to the light floral accents. Once you taste this Scotch whisky you can’t help but to be engulfed in smooth hints of fruit and honey, with a finish of pepper and nutmeg. Master Blender Gordon Graham and his brothers knew from the first sip they had discovered a thing of beauty, appreciated by whisky enthusiasts throughout the world who clamor to learn its secrets.

Established in 1881 Bunnahabhain, meaning “mouth of the river” from Scots Gaelic, looks out to the Sound of Islay, a vast stretch of sea travelled by many a seafarer, just like our helmsman illustrated proudly on the pack. This is home to the “gentle taste of Islay” the Bunnahabhain single malt. This wonderfully remote location on the north eastern coast of Islay, with sea influence and free flowing mountain spring water, makes it an idyllic place for whisky distillation. It is the only single malt from Islay to use natural spring water source. With 8 single malt distilleries currently producing our wonderful ”usage-beatha” on Islay (water of life in Scots Gaelic), why is the place such a haven for the creation of single malt? One of the reasons was, of course, its geography. Distilling was introduced on the island in the 1500s, with the three main components being readily available on Islay’s doorstep, namely, water, barley and peat.

The Deanston name means “Town of Dean”, originating from Walter Drummond who was the Dean of Dunblane who held feudal rights to the land in the 1500s. Deanston village and the locale were developed around the cotton mill; now home to the distillery, a place where in the 1820s more than 1000 people were employed (Deanston now employs 12 distillery workers, in comparison). The distillery opened in 1965 within the converted cotton mill and is unique as it is self sufficient as it dams water from the river teith which power two big water turbines which help power the distillery.

Ledaig Single Malt Scotch

Un-Chill Filtered Single Malt Scotch The Ledaig 10 year old single malt was launched in 2006, but it comes steeped in a rich tradititional culture. The name, pronounced 'Led-chig', comes from the Gaelic for 'safe haven', which is an apt moniker for a malt distilled on the Isles of Mull, surrounded by unpredictable local seas off the west coast of Scotland. Ledaig's character owes its quality to many sources; the traditional 18th century distillery, the maturation for the full 10 years in superior oak wood casks. The dark and aromatic lochan water source situated high on the mountains, the malted barley that has been exclusively peat dried and the 43% alcohol by volume that complements the smokiness of the palate perfectly. This is a many-layered masterpiece.

Tobermory Distillery

In the historic Tobermory distillery on the island of Mull, a perfectly fashioned Single Malt Scotch Whisky is handcrafted the old fashioned way, producing the robust Ledaig 10. Ledaig’s claim to the sole peated malt from this famous 18th century distillery combines with the fragrant lochan water from high on the mountains, later placed in the superior oak wood casks and rested in the ancient vault for the next decade. The result is a floral and smoky tasting experience that is seamless for the selective whisky drinker. Un-chill filtered at 46.3%, Ledaig 10 possesses a robust lemony gold color as you pour a glass from the specially designed bottle. The aromatic pleasures of mint chocolate, flowery scents and ocean salt complement the flavors of peppery flickers, smoky essences and creamy vanilla. A finish of spiced white pepper and cloves provide a lasting hint of where it all began, the sea and the island of Mull.

Gautier Cognac

Gautier is one of the oldest Cognac houses. Its history began in the 16th century, but the company was only officially founded in 1755 when the family obtained a Royal Warrant to produce Cognac and a founding charter signed by Louis XV. Gautier’s cellars are uniquely located in a former water mill above the river Osme; as a result, the cellars enjoy a natural humidity which provides ideal maturing conditions. This unique balance enables the Cognacs to age in a harmonious and balanced way and to gain exceptional mellowness, roundness and complexity. The heirs of Maison Gautier succeeded each other in turn over 10 generations, developing the family business. The Cognac house was thus passed on from father to son, always preserving its traditional expertise while maintaining a dynamic approach, and always seeking perfection in terms of quality. In 1975, Gautier joined the group Berger, which was in turn purchased by Marie Brizard & Roger International in 1995 and by the Belvedere Group in 2006.

Cardamaro Vino Amaro

Developed over 100 years ago by the Bosca family, the recipe for this wine-based Amaro is a true expression of Piemonte tradition. Il Tramonto Limoncello

IL Tramonto Limoncello owes its origins to the rosoli drinks made in the convents, where delicate liqueurs were made from fruits, spices and aromatic plants. The region’s unique soil leads to the finest quality lemons, which are sweet and citrusy. Four Roses Yellow Bourbon

In 1884, Paul Jones Jr, moved his thriving business to Louisville, Kentucky, where he opened an office in a section of historic Main Street called, Whiskey Row. Four years later, he trademarked the name Four Roses, claiming production and sales back to the 1860s. In 1922, the Paul Jones Company purchased the Frankfort Distilling Company. In 1943, Seagram purchased the Frankfort Distilling Co. primarily to acquire the most noted and recognized name in the business at that time – Four Roses Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Even though Four Roses was the top selling Bourbon in the U.S. in the 30s, 40s and 50s, Seagram made the decision to discontinue the sale of Kentucky Straight Bourbon here, and Four Roses was moved to the rapidly growing European and Asian markets where it quickly became the top selling Bourbon and remains a top-selling Bourbon in both Europe and Japan today. In 1966, a young man named Jim Rutledge, who would later become one of the world’s most legendary Master Distillers, joined Seagram in the Louisville Plant’s Research and Development Department. In 1975, he was transferred to Corporate Headquarters in New York until 1992, when Jim asked to return home to Kentucky to help with the Four Roses brand. In 1995, he replaced Ova Haney as the Master Distiller. For the next ten years, he worked tirelessly to return the Four Roses brand back to the States – a dream that would become a reality in hands of a new owner. In February 2002, the Kirin Brewery Company, Ltd. purchased the Four Roses brand trademark, and named the new acquisition Four Roses Distillery LLC. Four Roses was once again sold in the United States beginning in 2004 and quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest names in the Bourbon world. In August 2015, Jim Rutledge retired as Master Distiller and Brent Elliott, who worked alongside Jim for 10 years, became the company’s new Master Distiller. The people who work at the Four Roses Distillery in Lawrenceburg, KY and at our warehouse facility in Cox’s Creek, KY continue the legacy that began with Paul Jones in 1888. Their passion for quality and their pride in handcrafting an award winning Bourbon is evident in the smooth, mellow taste that has become the signature of the Four Roses Brand.
